3D-EP

Originally we were thinking, "What the hell are we going to call it?" I came up with a list of really punny titles. One of them was Marker Moon. I was just going to draw a little moon on the front in marker pen. ~ Andy Partridge

On September 12, 2002 ~ Andy talked about the cover of XTC's 3D-EP.

WL: The 3D-EP cover looks to me like something you had a fair amount of control over.

AP: I did. Originally we were thinking, "What the hell are we going to call it?" I came up with a list of really punny titles. One of them was Marker Moon. Not [Television's] Marquee Moon, but Marker Moon. I was just going to draw a little moon on the front in marker pen. [laughter] I was doing a lot of art at home and the art I was doing was mostly in red and green. I showed one of these sketch pieces to a design company and said, "Can we have it like that? Although this is a bit too scruffy. Can you sort-of tidy this up?"

So they did a very, very tidied version of one of my artworks. That became the 3D-EP cover. And then the photograph on the back was printed out of register almost as if it was a piece of 3D comic art. But it was never intended to be 3D art. You know, there were never any glasses or anything.

WL: Sure, mock 3D.

AP: It was mock 3D, yeah.

WL: 2D.

AP: Faux D. [laughter]
